Family leave & temporary absence

Maternity, paternity & adoption leave

Contributions will continue while you are on maternity, paternity or adoption leave and are receiving maternity, paternity or adoption pay.

Your own contributions will be based on your actual earnings while you are away. The company will make up any difference between these lower contributions and the amount you would have been paying if you had been working normally.

Parental leave

Parental leave is an authorised period of temporary absence, during which you will earn no pension, but you will continue to be covered for death in service benefits.

Temporary absence

This is when you are not receiving pay, possibly because of illness or a sabbatical, during which you will earn no pension unless the company has agreed to pay contributions for you. The company should advise you if you will continue to be covered for death in service benefits.
