State Pensions
The pension that is paid to you by DMGT is only one source of income that you may receive in retirement. In addition, you may also have benefits under another employer˙s scheme, a personal arrangement, as well as your State Pension from the government.
Your State Pension is made up of two elements, the basic State Pension and the State Second Pension or S2P (previously known as the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme or SERPS).
The basic State Pension is payable from your State Pension age, as long as you have paid enough National Insurance contributions during your working lifetime. The State Pensions for the 2009/10 and 2010/11 tax years are as follows:
Basic State Pension |
Amount 2009/10 |
Amount 2010/11 |
|||
Single |
£4,953.00 |
£5,077.80
Married couple £7,919.60 £8,119.80
|
S2P is an earnings related benefit that is also paid by the government. Whether you will receive this will depend on your own circumstances.
The DMGT scheme is contracted out of S2P, so you pay a lower rate of National Insurance contributions during your period of active membership. You may be entitled to a S2P pension for other periods of your working life.
